WSI #3 - Explore your dream job

Which job is the job for you?

Everyone has different opinions. Your dream job might be someone else's nightmare job.
Your nightmare job might be their dream job. How do you find what's right for you?

Having a job. Employment. Work. An occupation. Making a living. Earning a crust. When people talk about a job, they mean the work they do for a person or business in exchange for pay. Many of you will already have a part time or casual job. You may also have an idea about the type of job you want when you finish school.

1. Pick a job that you are interested in. Use the Worksite fact sheets as well as your own research to complete the following Work Scene Investigation.

  1. Write a job description.
  2. Why would you enjoy this job?
  3. Do some research and find out how you would get a job such as this one? Eg) Traineeship, university degree, TAFE, apprenticeship. Please give details of what course you would take etc.
  4. What subjects would you complete in your final years at secondary school if you were interested in this job?
  5. How much money would you expect to earn in your first year in this job?
  6. What type of tasks would you be required to perform in this job?
  7. How would you make sure you were a valuable and worthwhile employee?

The Highs and Lows

People will always have different opinions about what makes a job good or bad. A busy, high-pressure job might seem exciting and challenging to you, but someone else may find it stressful. Working a long hard day in the great outdoors could be rewarding, or it may be tiresome and overwhelming. Everyone is different.

2. Write a description of your ideal job and your nightmare job. (Try to make these answers serious. Think about what you really want out of your job/career)
